The Yankton Sioux Tribe P.L. 93-638 Higher Education Program is a supplemental program for students who apply for education assistance; students are encouraged to seek all other available financial aid as well as: Pell grant (FAFSA). The YST - Higher Education deadline dates for completion are as follows:
July 1st of each year shall be the deadline date for all Fall semesters
December 1st is the deadline date for Spring semesters
The higher education institution that the student elects to attend must be listed as an accredited college as identified in the National Directory/ Registry of Approval and Accredited Colleges. ANY STUDENT FAILING TO MEET THE CLOSING DATE WILL BE PLACED ON THE ALTERNATE LIST.
All applicants must submit a COMPLETED application along with all required documents to the Higher Education Office; the following documents are required before an application can be considered:
Higher Education/Adult Vocational Training application.
Financial Needs Analysis form (last page of application packet)
(This form needs to be completed by your school financial aid office and returned to our office. It is your responsibility to get this form to your school and returned to the Higher Education office.
Letter of acceptance from the school your attending.
High school transcripts or GED transcripts or
Transcripts from previously attended college/University
Native American Tribal Affiliation certification
Previous semester grades
Class schedule for current semester
AVT applicants only, Birth certificate for all household members
AVT applicants only, Social Security cards for all household members.
July 1st is the deadline for new and returning applicants for the academic year.
YES, returning students are required to reapply at the beginning of the academic year.
December 1st is the deadline for new applicants who apply for second semester.
To be eligible for second semester scholarships previous semester grades and next semester schedules need to be submitted to our office no later than January 1st. (It is the applicant's responsibility to make sure all required documents are complete and submitted to correct offices.
